# Not receiving chat messages when using libircclient

I’m using libircclient to code my chat bot, but running into trouble.

After requesting the capabilities I can succesfully send messages to the chat using `PRIVMSG`, however I’m not seeing any events for messages in the chat, either from the bot or from other people.

Do I need some additional capability beyond `CAP REQ :twitch.tv/membership twitch.tv/tags twitch.tv/commands`?

EDIT:  
I’m seeing tag events for the messages of the bot itself:  
`Event "@badge-info=;badges=broadcaster/1,premium/1;color=;display-name=HappyCerberus;emote-sets=0,42,19194,107348,300067216,300374282,537206155,564265402;mod=0;subscriber=0;user-type=", origin: "NULL", params 1 [tmi.twitch.tv USERSTATE #happycerberus]`
